Craft show tent needed
Well, here's a shot in the dark. My husband has a booth in the Overland Park Fall Festival this weekend. It's his first attempt at this and just now realized he probably needs a tent/canopy to keep his stuff out of the elements and to define his space a bit.

So, does anyone happen to have one and not be at a show or fair this weekend and would be willing to let us borrow or rent it? The show is Saturday only and we will take excellent care of it and all that. His space is 10'x10' and I think that's pretty standard for art fairs.

LJ is blocked for me at work so could you email me directly (tjstein at gmail dot com).

If you're interested in what he does, you can look at his website, he makes furniture and various other bits of wood items.

Thanks for reading this, I appreciate it greatly.

Updated: Thanks for the response...we have now purchased one of our own!

Knitting in the Heartland
The Sunflower Knitters Guild puts together a bi-annual knitting conference called Knitting in the Heartland. The event is next weekend, April 5 and 6, at the Lenexa Radisson, 95th St. and I-35. The vendor market is open to the public both days, and Stefanie Japel, author of “Fitted Knits,” will be signing books from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. in the vendor market. Books will be available at the event if you want one signed and haven't purchased a copy yet although you are more than welcome to bring your personal copy if you have already have one.

There are still some openings in classes and if there are class openings next weekend, you can sign up then. For a copy of the brochure and to see the list of local vendors, please visit our website.

Even if you are not taking classes, please come!

There will be a variety of vendors at this event. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful yarn shops and talented people right in our own back yard. Please come out and support your local yarn shops, dyers, spinners, and designers, and meet some new knitting friends. The Knitting 911 room will be open Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Bring a project that you've been stuck on and ask our guild volunteers for help. Knitting 911 is free to registered participants and $5 for drop-ins who aren't taking a class.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment or e-mail us KITH@sunflowerknittersguild.org

Thanks and see you there!

Church of Craft Tomorrow December 1st
Just a quick reminder that Church of Craft is meeting tomorrow at Urban Arts + Crafts from 2:30 to 4:30. We'll be focused mainly on the 8" squares for the San Diego Wildfire Blankets but welcome anyone who wants to show up. You can help sew squares together, or tag things, or bring your own project and just join us for a good time.

If you have squares (knitted or crocheted) but won't be able to make the 2:30pm to 4:30pm time frame, I will be working as a greeter at the store from 11am to 2:30pm if you'd like to drop them off with me. But I hope to see people there!

Please email me if you have any questions, revelizabeth{at}churchofcraft.org

Church of Craft - Charity Donations
Hello all!

I wanted to post a quick message to say a few things. First off, if you have already signed up for the newsletter through the official http://www.chuchofcraft.org website, I apologize if you're seeing this twice. If you have not yet been able to sign up over at the CoC website, please take the time to do so. I know there was some problems with the linkage on their site at first, but that should all be fixed now. Go to http://www.churchofcraft.org/doors, select Kansas City, and put in your email address to subscribe.

Secondly, at the November meeting, we decided to support the San Diego Wild Fire Blankets project. If you can knit or crochet, you can help us make 8" squares to donate to this project. The squares will be collected at our December 1st meeting and sent to be compiled into blankets to be donated to people that have recently lost their homes in the CA wildfires. Please check out the website - http://sandiegowildfireblankets.blogspot.com/ for more details about how to make the squares, or send me a message if you'd like to learn more.

When we meet in December, we can talk about whether or not we'd like to do a second round to send more squares in January.

Church of Craft (November 3rd)
Hello again!

It's that time of the month for me to inform you of our upcoming meeting. :) We'll be at Urban Arts + Crafts this coming Saturday, November 3rd between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. I'd like to talk about the holidays coming up during this meeting, specifically about things we can do to prepare for December. This may also include a discussion on a possible donation made in the name of the Church of Craft to a worthwhile charity in the Kansas City area (if enough people are interested in such a thing).

Please come with whatever you'd like to work on, as normal, as well as anything else you'd like to share pertaining to the holidays and gearing up holiday crafting.

ALSO, an exciting announcement to follow-up my last message. The Kansas City group is now officially listed on the http://www.churchofcraft.org website. Please, please, please go there and subscribe to the newsletter for Kansas City. I would like to start using that as my monthly notification instead of relying on people checking their LJ friends page. If you have any questions about the site, please let me know. We don't have a Kansas Page up yet, but I plan to have something simple put together by the end of the week.

Thanks! And I hope to see you all this Saturday.

Church of Craft this Sunday!
Hey everyone! The Church of Craft meeting for the month of October is going to be this Sunday (Oct. 4th), not Saturday. The Urban Arts + Crafts store is all booked up in October, so we'll be meeting across the street at the Latte Land in the Briarcliff Village shops. Same time as usual, 2:30pm to 4:30pm. There's a small room to the right when you enter the store, it should accomodate a few of us and give us room to work.

One of our members is getting married the following Tuesday (Oct. 9th) and I've been giving a lot of thought lately to photography and scrapbooking as a result. I'd love to come together this Sunday and talk about different techniques and ideas for Scrapbooking. I know this is a popular hobby that some people feel strongly about one way or another. If you're not into scrapbooking, please feel free to bring any project you're currently working on and just spend some time with us. If you have any scrapbooking books or materials, please bring them along so we can all share ideas!

Hope to see you Sunday!

Church of Craft this Saturday (Sept. 1st)
Hello everyone!

This is just a reminder that the next Church of Craft meeting is this Saturday, where we'll be having an Arts and Crafts swap! This is your chance to bring any craft supplies, half finished pieces or crafty whatnots to show to other people and see what you can get in return.

As usual, we'll be in the back room at Urban Arts + Crafts in the Briarcliff Village shops, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Please let me know if you don't think you'll make it. I'd like to get any notice if it doesn't seem like we'll have many people.

Church of Craft - Arts & Crafts Swap
Hey everyone!  Please forgive me for posting this right after our last meeting, but I have a great idea for the next meeting and I wanted to give people plenty of time to prepare.

First, our next meeting is Saturday, September 1st.  2:30 to 4:30pm at Urban Arts + Crafts in Briarcliff Village as usual.

My idea:  I'd love to do an Arts & Crafts swap for our next meeting.  Bring completed crafts, half-completed arts or supplies to swap with other members.  We won't have a project, as we might be too busy pawing through everyone else's stuff, but bring something to work on as well, if you'd like.  Smiley

We need several people to participate to make this worth doing, so I'm going to ask the owner of UA + C, Karen, to see if we can't put up a notice in the store as well.

You don't need to tell me what you'll be bringing, just show up with stuff you're willing to trade with.  Supplies, crafts, art - whatever!

I'll send out a notice the week before our next meeting as usual, but hopefully this should give everyone plenty of time to gather up things they'd be willing to part with!

And as always, since we're using the space for free, if you don't think you'll be able to make it please let me know in advance if possible.

Church of Craft this Saturday (Aug. 4th)
Hello everyone!

It's that time again.  Our next Church of Craft meeting is this Saturday, August 4th from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at the Urban Arts + Crafts store in Briarcliff Village.  I don't have a specific project in mind for this month, so feel free to bring whatever you're working on, or would like to work on.

I will be working knitting the Ribbed Lace Bolero - a pattern from a wonderful Craftster!

If you know that you won't be able to make it, please respond back.  Karen, the owner of Urban Arts + Crafts is kindly letting us use their studio space for free and I'd like to cancel our space ahead of time if no one plans on showing up.

Thanks, I hope to see you all this weekend!

OK, I know that MisKnits is open until 9 PM on Wednesday nights for "people to get together and make some progress on those unfinished projects"... Are there any other craft, yarn, bead, etc... stores that also do this? I'm trying to crawl out of my shell a little bit and actually (OMG!) met new people...

Church of Craft this Saturday
Hey Everyone. It's that time again! The next Church of Craft meeting is this coming Saturday - July 7th, 2007 at Urban Arts + Crafts in the Briarcliff Village shops, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Please let me know if you don't think you'll be coming. The ladies at the shop let us use their space for free for our group, and I don't want to take it up if no one is going to be there.

This month, I don't have a project for everyone to work on. However, I would love to have some discussions about ATCs (Artist Trading Cards). If you don't know what ATCs are you can read more here on Wikipedia or just show up Saturday. You don't have to work on an ATC during the meeting though, bring whatever you'd like, or just bring yourself!

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

June - Church of Craft meeting
For the month of June, the Church of Craft will be meeting on Sunday, June 3rd, instead of Saturday.  We'll be at the Latté Land across from Urban Arts + Crafts in the Briarcliff Village shops.  As usual, we'll be meeting from 2:30pm - to 4:30pm.  However, there will be no special project for this month, it's going to be a 'bring what you're working on' sort of day. I wanted to give everyone some advanced notice since it'll be on a Sunday, instead of Saturday, and at a different location (although not that different). Please let me know if you have any questions.

Also, for you crafty people that a big readers like I am, I want to invite you to join in my new project. It's a travelling journal for readers and I have a lot more information here at my journal. Please hop over and fill out the poll if this idea interests you. You can also see how it's starting to form up over at the forum. Thanks!

Church of Craft - Saturday May 5th
Our next scheduled meeting for the CoC is this Saturday, May 5th, at the Urban Arts + Crafts store in Briarcliff Village. I know that it's Cinco de Mayo and several people may have other plans for the afternoon, so if you don't think you can make it at 2:30pm Saturday afternoon, please let me know ahead of time. I'd rather be polite to our gracious hosts at the store and let them know ahead of time if we don't need the space.

If you are planning on coming this weekend, I've got a great project / swap for us to try out this weekend. I'd like to try and put together what's being called the "Rapunzel" scarf. It's a really fun project that you don't need to know how to knit or crochet or anything to make.

Supplies: Yarn (and lots of it) or fabric, or ribbon or all of the above!
Here's where the 'swap' part of this project comes in. For this project you need about 30 very long strands of yarn or fabric scraps or ribbon. When I say long, I mean about 10ft, although depending on how long you'd like your finished project to be, that length can vary. My idea is that we all bring scraps for this project, and with luck there will be enough of us to swap bits and pieces to make some really funky results.

There's a lot of great scarves using this technique over at Craftster just do a search for Rapunzel if you're curious.
